  1. Who Owns Information?: Copyright rules apply to Internet resources in the same way they apply to print and other online materials. Creative Commons licenses permit various uses.

  2. Fair Use / Good Use: The fair use provision allows researchers to utilize short portions of copyrighted works without asking permission. Make good use of sources by taking good notes. This will help you avoid plagiarism.

  3. Citing Net Sources: When creating Internet citations, follow the specific guidelines in the style manual that your instructor recommends. This page provides many examples.

  4. Citing Multimedia: Multimedia (audio podcasts, photos, videos) that you cite should have scholarly value and be retrievable. The methods for citing different types of media vary slightly.

  5. Tips & Tools for Citations: It may be difficult to establish the title and author of a Web page. Use Web tools that help you format citations.
